Coalition forces killed four terrorists and detained six suspects in the north and central regions of the country during operations targeting al-Qaeda in Iraq senior leaders Wednesday and today.
East of Samarra Wednesday, Coalition forces identified a suspected associate of al-Qaeda in Iraq – or AQI – senior leaders, stopping the truck in which the suspect was traveling with three other individuals. Two of the passengers reached for weapons in the back of the vehicle. Perceiving hostile intent Coalition forces engaged the men, killing all four.
Coalition forces captured a wanted individual Wednesday in Mosul. The suspect is believed to be a senior figure in the AQI network and tied to several senior terrorist leaders. One additional suspect was detained during the mission, and two more were detained this morning in similar operations in the city.
West of Qayyarah today, ground forces captured an individual identified from intelligence gathered during an operation Mar. 30. The suspect is allegedly tied to AQI leaders and their smuggling network. Coalition forces detained one additional suspect during the operation.
